Mass Intentions

The Church teaches that a priest may offer a Mass for a particular intention of the Christian faithful. “The Christian faithful who give an offering to apply the Mass for their intention contribute to the good of the Church and by that offering share its concern to support its ministers and works” (Canon 946). Please read the following guidelines for requesting that a Mass be offered for your intention.

We will open the Mass book on a quarterly basis to schedule intentions:

Mass book opens:	Intentions can be scheduled for:
June of this year.....	January - March of next year
September of this year.....	April - June of next year
December of this year.....	July-September of next year
March of this year.....	October - December of this year

The following intentions CAN be scheduled outside of the quarterly opening schedule:

Couples celebrating a significant wedding anniversary at or around their anniversary.
Families commemorating the one-year anniversary of a loved one’s death.
Intentions that need to be rescheduled due to a Mass cancellation

Those scheduling Mass intentions are limited to THREE intentions per quarterly opening:

Only ONE of those intentions may be scheduled on a Vigil or Sunday Mass.
One or all of the intentions may be scheduled on a weekday Mass.

An intention for the same person can only be scheduled ONCE in an 8-day period.

The parish office will NOT start a ‘list’ of requests or hold onto additional payments if the number of intentions requested exceeds what can be scheduled in the current open quarter. Please do not pay for Mass intentions until we confirm that we can fulfill the intentions you are requesting. You have the following options for intentions we cannot fulfill:

Wait until the next quarterly opening of the Mass Intention Book to contact our office.
Contact another parish to schedule the intention.
Have our parish office forward your intention and payment to the Diocesan Mission Office for a priest who is not assigned to our parish to offer Mass for your intention.

Due to the number of requests we receive, we encourage you to combine Mass Intentions:

Schedule ONE Mass for “John and Jane Doe” rather than one Mass for each.
Schedule ONE Mass for “The [deceased] members of…” in place of individual persons.

Mass with the intention “For the People of the Parish” will be offered a few times each year at the Vigil or Sunday Mass.

We do NOT accept requests for the following Masses which have parish-related Mass intentions:

Holy Thursday Mass (For our Priests)
Easter Vigil Mass (For the Newly Baptized and Professed)
Memorial Day (For all Military)
Mother’s Day (For all Mothers Living & Deceased)
Father’s Day (For all Fathers Living & Deceased)
Independence Day (July 4 – For our Nation)
Labor Day (For the Dignity of Workers)
All Souls Mass (Nov 2 – For All Souls)
Thanksgiving Day Mass (For the People of the Parish)

We will do our best to accommodate scheduling your Mass intention on or around the date you request, or assist you in forwarding your intention to the Diocesan Mission Office to have a priest outside of our parish fulfill the Mass intention.

Occasionally, intentions must be rescheduled due to a Mass cancellation. We will notify you in a timely manner if the Mass at which your intention is scheduled is affected. You will have the option to reschedule the intention for a later date, or have the intention and your Mass offering returned to you or forwarded to the Diocesan Mission Office.

A $10.00 Mass offering per intention is due at the time of scheduling.
